Every year since I've been born, I have been lucky enough to vacation at Martha's Vineyard. I have been to a lot of places in the last few years, but nothing compares to the salty air, wide open spaces and piece and quiet of Martha's Vineyard. It is my favorite place in the whole world.
My family stays at Pohogonot Farm in Edgartown. The place we stay is very secluded and sits right on South Beach. I always get so excited driving down the 3 mile dirt road for the first time each summer. The anticipation builds with every bump on the road until the trees clear and you come to an opening where the house sits. It's a 5 mile long stretch of grass, blue skies and the ocean. I can't help but feel at peace when I arrive. There is just no place like it. No matter how much I try to explain this sanctuary to my friends, no one will ever truly understand the beauty of this place until they see it.
While I was visiting this summer, I tried taking a picture of all my favorite spots so that you could get a glimpse of why I love the Vineyard so much. It is so hard to capture the beauty of this place in photographs but I wanted to try anyways.
The drive up to the house.
The view from the back deck is my favorite. There is nothing better than waking up and having a cup of tea right here in the morning.
This is the Pond House, where we stay. There is no better place to watch the sunset!
This is the Heath House, another house we have stayed at before. The house got damaged this winter so it recently got rebuild (but they added on a front deck, which was a nice touch). My favorite thing about the Vineyard is that everything is very authentic. The owners like the homes and land to look as it did in the early 1900's. I always feel like I am escaping reality when I'm here because everything is so simple and genuine.
The Cabin and the Big House are a couple other house on the land they we have stayed at before. All together there are 6 houses on the land. The Pond House is by far my favorite though.
The family who owns the land has pictures hanging in every house. I love looking at these because it reminds me how lucky I am to be staying at a place like this.

If you have never been to the Vineyard, I would suggest taking a trip there one summer. Even if you just do a day trip, it's worth it. There are great places to eat and the scenery alone is enough to take your breath away. What's your favorite place to visit?
